Companionship through Neighbourcare

The Basingstoke Neighbourcare service supports frail, elderly and often vulnerable people to remain mobile, helping them to avoid becoming housebound by providing access to shopping and medical appointments and encouraging a positive mental outlook to reduce loneliness and isolation

Valerie is 86 and experiences difficulties with mobility when walking without assistance, and Basingstoke NeighbourCare helps her out with essential food shopping trips and transport to and from hospital appointments.

Previously, Valerie had gone alone to do her shopping in a local supermarket, but suffered a panic attack on entering the store, as recent falls had made her feel a lot less confident about being leaving her home.

“Basingstoke NeighbourCare help me to do my food shopping, assisting me around the store, helping me back into my home again and even helping me unpack the bags when I get home, it really helps to know I’m safe.”

"I couldn’t manage without Basingstoke NeighbourCare, the volunteers provide a wonderful service, they take me to my appointments, sit with me to keep me company, bring me back home, and they are giving up their time because they want to help me."
